LEGO Batman: The Videogame is Traveller's Tales' first standalone Batman entry in the long-running LEGO video game franchise, applying the studio's formula to the entire DC roster centered on the Dark Knight. When all the villains in Arkham Asylum team up and break loose simultaneously, only the dynamic duo is bold enough to take them on across Gotham City — the campaign is the work of putting them all back behind bars one increasingly elaborate level at a time.

The gameplay covers the familiar LEGO format: drop-in co-op platforming, build-and-smash environmental interactions, vehicle sequences, and character-ability puzzles that require switching between team members. Batman and Robin each carry their own gadget loadouts that gate specific puzzle elements, with the campaign rewarding swapping between them frequently. The hero side runs across the full Gotham landscape, with the Batmobile and other iconic vehicles featured throughout.

The villain side is what distinguishes this LEGO entry from earlier releases. Players can flip to the other side of the story and play as Batman's foes — The Joker, Penguin, Scarecrow and the wider rogues' gallery — spreading chaos throughout the city across a parallel campaign with its own ability sets and puzzle solutions. The combination of hero and villain campaigns roughly doubles the game's content footprint and lets players see both sides of every conflict. The LEGO franchise's signature visual humor and approachable difficulty curve sit comfortably in the Batman setting, which has enough inherent absurdity to support the studio's tone.
