Melatonin

Melatonin is a hand-drawn rhythm game that strips away most of the interface conventions of the genre. There are no intimidating note tracks, no bar overlays, no health meters; the rhythm of each level is communicated entirely through animations and sound cues in the scene itself, which means a successful pass requires you to read the visual language of the dream the protagonist is currently having.

The game is structured as five chapters of more than twenty short levels, each with its own song and its own dream — fragmented, surreal scenes that slowly accumulate into a portrait of the main character's waking life. The relationship between what they experience by day and what their brain reassembles at night is the actual subject of the game, told without dialogue through small details across levels.

A standard Practice Mode and a generous set of assist features make the campaign approachable for newer rhythm players. A Hard Mode unlocks after the main campaign and reworks the existing songs into significantly more demanding patterns, and Mashups recombine elements from across the game into new levels. A built-in editor lets the community build and share their own rhythm sequences in the same hand-drawn style.
