About My Memory of Us
My Memory of Us is a hand-drawn 2D side-scrolling adventure inspired by naïve art, telling a story about friendship between a boy and a girl during wartime. The Evil King has plundered the city, robot soldiers patrol every street, and the population has been segregated — some citizens marked and forced behind a wall sealing off part of the city. The children survive together despite fate's repeated attempts to tear them apart. The events shown in the game are based on actual stories from World War II, with the fairy-tale framing softening but not concealing what the source material actually is.
The gameplay uses a pair mechanic where you control two characters with different abilities, either separately or as a connected duo. She runs fast and uses a slingshot. He sneaks in shadows. The puzzles, stealth sections and action moments throughout the campaign are built around coordinating their complementary skills — neither can survive on their own, and the bond between them is both narrative and mechanical.
The presentation is the game's emotional engine. Beautiful 2D graphics in a deliberately stylized children's-book register hold the heavy themes at enough distance to be approachable, while a grotesque tale mixed with bittersweet humor gives the writing the layered tone the material demands. A moving story about friendship and love in dangerous times — about the children who were separated by forces beyond their control but found the strength to find each other again.
