About Necesse
Necesse is a procedurally generated 2D top-down sandbox by Fair Games that blends the survival-and-building grammar of Terraria, the settlement loop of Stardew Valley, and the dungeon-crawling rhythm of classic adventure RPGs. The world is infinite — quite literally, with continuous procedural generation in every direction — and adapts its scale and threats to whatever combination of solo, co-op or dedicated-server play you've chosen.
The settlement layer is the central differentiator from similar games. You don't just build structures — you recruit settlers with specific skills who handle their own jobs autonomously. They work fields, tend animals, run shops, gather resources, and free you from the constant micromanagement that the genre often demands. You can hire guards, craft traps, defend against raids, and sell wares to neighbouring settlements to acquire equipment well beyond what your own progression curve would otherwise allow.
The adventure layer is just as deep. Procedurally generated dungeons, sea-based expeditions, boss fights, magical equipment, and a class system that supports archer, melee and magical builds in any combination. The game adapts difficulty across solo and multiplayer modes, supports hundreds of players on dedicated servers, and provides extensive customisation options so you can turn off mechanics like settlement raids if they don't fit your preferred play style. From pet parrots and ostrich mounts to genie lamps and seasonal events, the content surface is much larger than the modest pixel art suggests.
