That Which Gave Chase

That Which Gave Chase is an experimental first-person dog-sledding horror game set in the arctic. The premise: a scientist who had to abandon his expedition hires a sled dog musher (you) to bring him back to where he left off. The journey takes you deep into the unforgiving frozen wastes, with the scientist guiding from the sled while the protagonist commands the dogs.

The sledding mechanics use physics-based first-person controls. Plan routes through varied terrain, manage your dogs' direction, prevent the sled from tipping. Some sections are linear paths through narrow gorges; others open into more spacious arctic plains where route choice matters. Reading the strange landscape becomes important as the journey unfolds.

A mix of adventure and light horror elements drives the structure, with a walking-sim-like narrative emphasis. The game runs text-heavy with deliberate cuts and a constant unnerving atmosphere. An average playthrough takes 45 to 60 minutes, and observant players who pay attention to environmental details may find more to uncover than the obvious story conveys.
