About The Classrooms
The Classrooms is a procedural liminal-space horror game framed as found footage. In 1996, Robert Chen took a VHS camcorder into a condemned local public school to investigate the disappearance of multiple students, including his younger sister. He never came back. The tape did.
The entire game is the contents of that tape — first-person exploration through a senseless, seemingly infinite maze of hallways and classrooms, all filmed through the visual artifacts of a period camcorder. Each playthrough generates a new layout from billions of possible procedural combinations, so the footage is uniquely yours.
Multiple entities inhabit the world, ranging from harmless oddities to lethal threats. Each has distinct mechanics — different ways of detecting you, different ways of being avoided or appeased — that you learn by careful observation and (often fatal) experimentation.
Proximity voice is integrated: real-world noise from your microphone can attract entities that detect sound, though your voice can also be used tactically. Inventory holds codex entries, keys, and equipment items that vary between runs. Active early-access development continues to add new entities, anomalies, and story material.
