About Trine 4 The Nightmare Prince
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince returns Frozenbyte's series to the 2.5D side-scrolling format of Trine and Trine 2 after the more 3D-oriented third entry. The familiar trio — Amadeus the wizard, Pontius the knight, Zoya the thief — is sent to find Prince Selius, whose nightmares have grown vivid enough to escape his dreams and rampage through the waking world.
The puzzle design is built around interactions between physics elements: fire, air, light, magnets, and electricity, with most rooms solvable in multiple ways depending on which hero leads. Levels scale to player count, so a four-player co-op session and a solo run play noticeably differently.
This is the first Trine to support four-player co-op, both online and local. Combat is reworked from earlier entries, with proper boss fights against materialised nightmares instead of the original games' lighter encounter design.
Skill trees per hero, a long original score for each environment, and the painterly fantasy aesthetic the series is known for. The studio bills this as the most complete Trine to date, which mostly tracks.
