Tyranny

Tyranny is Obsidian Entertainment's classic-style RPG from the team behind Pillars of Eternity, Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth. The premise inverts the genre's usual hero arc: in the world of Tyranny, the despot Kyros has already won. The player isn't a random villager rising to power but a Fatebinder, an instrumental officer in the Overlord's army with considerable authority over the conquered Tiers.

The story spans branching, unique paths with meaningful world-altering consequences. As arbiter of law in conquered lands, you decide how to use your authority: inspire stability and loyalty, offer a better way through reform, work inside the system, or try to dismantle it for the glory of Kyros, the good of the world, or your own ambition. Strengthen the pillars of the new regime, or search for more power at the top of the new order.

Combat is tactical real-time-with-pause with new party-driven mechanics and modern presentation. The very layout of the world alters based on early-game decisions during the Conquest phase, where you make choices about how Kyros's armies subdued the Tiers. Allies, enemies, and entire factions emerge or vanish based on those decisions. A rich original setting takes inspiration from bronze-age and ancient-world political structures more than traditional Tolkien fantasy.
