About Curious Expedition
Curious Expedition is a roguelike expedition simulation set in the late 19th century, the era of Victorian adventure novels and pith-helmet exploration. You play as one of several famous historical personalities (Charles Darwin, H.P. Lovecraft, Marie Curie, and others) leading expeditions into uncharted territories for fame, scientific discovery, and treasure.
The procedurally generated map is the core challenge. Plan and equip each trek with supplies, weapons, and party members; manage resources to keep your group alive and sanity reasonably intact as you explore; trade with native tribes and civilisations whose responses depend on how you've treated others.
Temples and ancient ruins yield treasures and curses in equal measure. Loot too aggressively and you'll trigger consequences for your trek and the world around you. Equipping mysterious treasures grants advantages but often comes with unpredictable side effects — the colonial-era atmosphere is depicted with appropriate self-awareness.
Combat against wildlife, mystical creatures, and even dinosaurs adds tactical encounters between exploration phases. The narrative is procedurally assembled from many small story modules, so each campaign reads differently. From Maschinen-Mensch — a small German indie team that has continued supporting the game with major content updates years after release.
