About FAR Changing Tides
FAR: Changing Tides expands the desolate setting of FAR: Lone Sails by swapping the dust-blown plains for stormy seas. Toe, the new protagonist, wakes alone in a flooded world where what once was home has become unfamiliar and sometimes actively hostile. The journey is to traverse the ruins of a once-great society in search of a new beginning.
The gameplay vocabulary centers on the ship. You raise the mast, hoist and angle sails for different wind conditions, light the furnace for engine power, dive the submerged ship beneath the surface when storms or obstacles require it, search for fuel and salvage in the watery depths, and unlock and repair the ship's increasingly complex systems as you progress. Each new component opens new possibilities and new puzzles.
Okomotive's meditative approach to gameplay remains intact from the original. Moments of peril are real — intense storms, dangerous wrecks, environmental puzzles — but the dominant texture is solitary captainship, with the dynamic soundtrack reacting to your actions and the environment to produce the moments of crescendo and reflection that aren't scripted but earned. The world is bigger and the puzzles deeper than Lone Sails offered.
