About Judgment
Judgment is the remastered release of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's detective drama, set in the same Kamurocho as the Yakuza series and built on the same engine, with faster loading, 60 FPS and all original downloadable content rolled in. The protagonist, Takayuki Yagami, was a defence lawyer who pulled off a near-impossible acquittal — only to watch his client murder his own girlfriend months later. Three years on, Yagami runs a small detective agency in the red-light district, taking the kind of work nobody else will.
The central case is a serial murder investigation where the victims are found with their eyes gouged out. Yagami's former law firm pulls him back into the periphery of the official investigation, and the case quickly entangles with the failure that ended his legal career — to find the killer, he has to face the question he's been avoiding for three years about the man he once defended. The story leans hard on the noir register the Yakuza series usually reserves for its side characters.
Mechanically Judgment expands the studio's familiar brawler combat with detective-specific systems: stakeouts where you photograph subjects without being seen, tailing sequences that punish careless movement, lockpicking, evidence gathering and case-board work. The dual fighting styles — Crane against groups, Tiger against single tougher opponents — keep the combat varied, and the city is filled with the usual deep bench of side content, mini-games and friendship arcs that the series is known for.
