About Scrap Mechanic
Scrap Mechanic is Axolot Games' creative engineering sandbox where you've crashlanded on a far-away agricultural planet just as the local Farmerbots have gone violently haywire. The job description was supposedly easy money as a robot mechanic — the reality is closer to crashlanded survival against thousands of crazed worker robots, with only your wits, your tool belt, and a creative knack for turning your surroundings to your advantage.
The game runs across three modes. Survival Mode drops you into a dynamically generated open world filled with enemies, treasure and dangerous robots, where you build bases to protect yourself and your valuables — alone or with friends. Challenge Mode is the Master Mechanic Trials, a roster of 40 fun and demanding challenges that test your engineering skills before you venture into the wider world, with the option to create and share your own challenges. Creative Mode strips out the survival elements entirely and gives you over 400 building parts to construct whatever your imagination produces.
The construction toolkit is the central appeal. Transforming vehicles, walking houses, fully functional contraptions with logic gates and physics-driven moving parts — the system supports far more than the cartoon presentation initially suggests. Mod support adds over 1,000 community-built parts on top of the official catalogue, and Steam Workshop integration makes sharing creations effortless. The game remains in active development with new content and optimisations being added regularly, and the early-access state is openly acknowledged on the storefront.
