About Decisive Campaigns Ardennes Offensive
Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive is the fourth title in the Decisive Campaigns wargame series. It covers the Ardennes fighting from December 1944 into January 1945, and it renders operational-level wargaming at a scale set just above the tactical, where the battalion is your main unit of maneuver.
A real classic wargame with an exceptional level of detail, it carries a sprawling full-campaign scenario that runs more than 16 days, alongside several shorter scenarios zeroing in on a handful of days of fighting at particular spots such as St. Vith and Bastogne. The whole Ardennes campaign plays out on a 1km-per-hex map with battalion-sized units under your command, each day broken into four turns, one of them at night.
Dozens of additions fit the scale and bring innovation to the series: more detailed weather with over five hex states, visible villages and height levels, and line of sight, so hills block vision and recon matters more than ever. Hexes no longer belong to either side, so enemy troops can slip through your lines unseen, the supply system is overhauled with traffic congestion rules, and intercept fire makes advancing through open terrain hazardous. Units can switch between March and Combat modes, attacks range from a probe to an all-out assault, and a reworked AI provides a solid challenge.
