About Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is the definitive edition of ZA/UM's 2019 role-playing game, with full voice acting added across the entire script, four new political vision quests covering different sides of the protagonist's potential worldview, additional citizens, a new explorable area, and revisions to the existing endings. The core game underneath is unchanged — a sprawling, dense, openly literary RPG about a detective trying to solve a murder while also remembering who he is.

The skill system is the game's most distinctive contribution. Twenty-four wildly different skills are personified as voices in your head — Logic, Empathy, Inland Empire, Authority, Half Light, Encyclopedia and a long tail of others — and they argue with each other constantly about how to interpret what you're seeing and what to do about it. Internal dialogue is where most of the game happens, alongside an external dialogue system that lets you intimidate, sweet-talk, dance, sing, write poetry, take drugs, or solve the meaning of life through ordinary conversation.

The city of Revachol — a fictional post-war coastal metropolis with its own political history of failed revolutions, corporate occupations and unprocessed trauma — is rendered with the density of a novel and the open exploration of an RPG. Your character is mostly a wreck on arrival, with no memory of who he is, and the game lets you decide what kind of detective he becomes — from disciplined investigator through outright disaster, with explicit support for ideological alignments across the political spectrum and a Thought Cabinet that lets you internalise long-term ideas as character development. Over eighty clothing items, fourteen tools and six psychoactive substances flesh out the role-play surface, and the writing remains some of the strongest the medium has produced.
