About Happy Game
Happy Game is Amanita Design's pivot from cute and whimsical into psychedelic horror. A little boy falls asleep to a horrible nightmare, and you have to make him happy again. Three distinct nightmares unfold across the campaign, each shaped around its own visual logic and oppressive imagery: smiling faces that aren't, pink bunnies that lure rather than comfort, environments that warp the moment you understand them.
The gameplay carries over Amanita's signature point-and-click puzzle design: click on the right thing, in the right sequence, watch the bizarre animation play out, advance to the next strange tableau. The puzzles here are deeply disturbing rather than charming, but the underlying logic of the studio's previous games (Botanicula, CHUCHEL, Machinarium) still applies.
Music and sound are by the Czech freakfolk band DVA, whose creepy songs and discomfiting screeches do enormous work in establishing the nightmare atmosphere. The whole project runs short and dense, more of a guided horror experience than a sprawling adventure, and exits with the same unease it spent the runtime building.
