Once Again

Once Again is a quiet, time-bending story game built around the camera. Sia, a teenage boy, makes a wish on what should be a boring summertime birthday — and finds himself somewhere else in time, standing in front of a girl he never had the chance to meet in his own present. Every birthday after that, the same thing happens. He gets to make up for a lifetime of missed moments with her, one stretch of borrowed time at a time.

The gameplay layer is photography. Through cleanly designed interactive mechanics — scrubbing film, writing notes, framing and taking photos, working with focus and exposure as actual variables — Sia and the girl gradually fill rolls upon rolls of film with the moments they're recovering together. The mechanics serve as a soft introduction to photography as an art form, with each interaction reading as a deliberate creative choice rather than a button press.

The game's emotional arc unfolds across time and space as the question shifts from who she is to what their connection means and what it costs both of them. A handcrafted illustrated art style threads the narrative and the gameplay together into a single nostalgic register, and the original soundtrack by WeiFan is built specifically to carry the feelings the script chooses to leave unspoken. The story asks whether a goodbye is an ending or a promise of reunion, and answers that question in its own time.
