About Rift Wizard 2
Rift Wizard 2 is a tough-as-nails traditional roguelike built around the question of how a wizard composes a spellbook. You play an immortal amnesiac wizard journeying through the cosmos to defeat his nemesis, and each run gives you the chance to assemble a wholly new repertoire of spells, passive skills and magical artifacts from a massive pool. The number of viable builds is genuinely uncountable, and the procedurally generated levels ensure that no two runs ask the same questions.
The game's signature design choice is the portal system. Instead of running a fixed dungeon path, you choose which levels to visit and in what order from the portals available to you, exercising direct agency over what challenges to face. There's no stealth, no stair-dancing, no running away — every level has to be faced head-on and obliterated with whatever your build can muster. Rift Wizard eschews randomness and complex combat formulas: every game piece is easily understandable, every victory is earned, every death is deserved.
Rift Wizard 2 adds an equipment system that meaningfully widens build possibilities. Randomized items can perform crucial bridging functions — a helmet that converts your ice damage to poison opens up entirely new builds for your poison spells; a staff that turns fire damage into free Mercurize casts enables fire-Mercurize hybrids that wouldn't make sense otherwise; pure radius bonuses can balloon your fireballs into something absurd. New enemies — massive multi-tile monsters, new rival wizards, procedurally generated variant monsters like Fae Ogres, Lich Ogres or Immortal Bone Wizards — round out the challenge. The basic systems have been rebalanced: HP and spell charges refill between levels, potions are rarer, damage redeals no longer bypass immunity, and spell upgrades are stronger but limited to one per spell.
