About Lunistice

Lunistice is a linear 3D platformer that openly draws from the 32-bit era of the PlayStation and Sega Saturn, both in its low-polygon aesthetic and in its commitment to short, focused level design rather than open-ended collectathon sprawl. You play Hana the Tanuki, journeying through her own dreams toward the moon, and the campaign is structured as a sequence of distinct dreamscapes each themed around fragments of her memories.

The variety in the levels is the central appeal. An old shrine, a fancy water park, and a world made entirely out of food sit alongside several other distinct settings, each with their own visual palette, geometry and traversal challenges. The game is built to be played in short bursts — none of the levels overstay their welcome, the controls stay forgiving even as the level design gets trickier, and the pacing rewards small repeated visits as much as longer sessions.

Replay value is folded into the design through speedrun timing and S-Rank objectives on every stage, with optional unlockable characters who have their own skills and movement profiles to remix the campaign with on subsequent runs. The studio, A Grumpy Fox, made Lunistice as a deliberately small, deliberately accessible love letter to the genre, and the result holds up as one of the more honest tributes to the 32-bit platformer canon released in the last few years.
