The Banner Saga 2

The Banner Saga 2 picks up where the first game left off, continuing the journey of viking clans struggling across a breaking world toward whatever fragile safety remains. The choices made in the first game — who lived, who died, which alliances were forged or broken — directly shape who's alive at the start of this one, and the sequel layers fresh hard decisions on top of that inheritance.

The game's identity is its presentation: beautifully 2D hand-drawn combat sequences and animations, enhanced with new special effects, scored by Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory. Every visual element is built for a specific kind of melancholic weight — even quiet camp moments are framed like illustrations from a saga manuscript. New characters expand the cast and a new playable race — the Horseborn, centaur-like nomads — joins the roster, bringing their own units and tactical considerations.

Combat plays out on improved, more strategic battle boards where positioning, willpower management and unit composition all carry real consequences. Character permadeath remains, which means losses in a single battle stay with the campaign permanently. Between fights, the journey itself takes precedence — your role in building and managing your caravan as it moves across the vast landscape determines whether your civilization survives the road, not just whether you win individual encounters.
